THE PHARISEE DISMANTLED

It's like this...
you've known for some time,
had that feeling in your gut...
that you've been out to impress.

Stretched things a bit,
said all the right things,
insinuated and embellished,
and boy you looked good.

Whether others agreed
or not didn't matter.

You were very busy...
looking, sounding,
being, speaking,
adjusting, tweaking,
just right.

As near right as you could.
So much so,
You were impressed with you.
If no one else.

Then God enters...

And shows you you.

On that day...
you find the best foot
put forward,
just doesn't look best anymore.
It's so unlike you,
so far from being you...
you're not sure it's possible.

You look again...
retract the foot, and think,
hmmmmm,
now what do I do...
I don't think this is what God
has called me to.

That day is ominous.
You reel from it.
Your stomach churns...
You wonder...
in the deep recesses of your mind...
who am I anyway?
if this isn't me...

Now if you've had
a couple decades of
such prolific deception,
for whatever reason,
from childhood experiences
shaping you...
or however it came to be,
coming face to face with it
is tough to swallow.

There you are.
Naked before God.
Much like Adam and Eve.
Vulnerable.
Insecure.
Scared.
Shaky.

Perhaps now, you decide
to go see Jesus,
in the night,
where no one sees...

and He welcomes you...

and gently gives you the low down
on who you really are,
and what you really need.

Good move.

"...except a man be born again,
he cannot see the kingdom of God."
John 3:3
